National Gambling Support Network reports a 50% increase

We love hearing about support. As well as protocols and mechanics being introduced to regulate problematic gambling behaviour, especially when the players initiate support. It shows a strong, collective shift toward healthier habits and personal responsibility.
That’s exactly what’s been happening in recent years. The National Gambling Support Network (NGSN) has reported a 50% rise in referrals since it launched just two years ago. This increase highlights how much more accessible and visible gambling support has become across the country.
Support is a big thing, especially in gambling
GambleAware Deputy Chief Executive Anna Hargrave emphasized the importance of refining the NGSN’s approach: “The second year of the National Gambling Support Network presented an opportunity to take the learnings from year one and focus on how we can best aid those affected by gambling harms.”
Hargrave continued, “We’ve seen a rise in the number of people being supported and, importantly, an increase in brief interventions and self-referrals. That means we can help individuals earlier and potentially prevent further harm down the road.”
Providers help people in all different stages.
The quality of support that delivers through the network is top-quality. Providers across the country help people at all stages of their journey—whether they’re just beginning to seek help or looking for ongoing support as they maintain recovery. Hargrave expressed excitement about collaborating with future commissioners to ensure the NGSN continues integrating seamlessly into long-term systems of care.
Since 2023, the NGSN has supported more than 110,000 players by using a “region first” strategy. This method taps into local services to provide geographically targeted help. These figures show that the help is working—and people who need it most are actively embracing it.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to see even greater engagement, and dedication to responsible gambling in the years to come.
