Hard Hand

In blackjack, any 2-card hand that does not contain an Ace.

In blackjack, a "hard hand" refers to a hand that does not contain an Ace or contains an Ace that is counted as 1. This means that the total value of the hand cannot be adjusted to be more favorable. For example, if a player has a hand consisting of a 10 and a 6, the total value is 16, and it is considered a hard hand. If a player has a hand with an Ace and a 5, it can be considered a "soft hand" because the Ace can be counted as either 1 or 11, giving the player more flexibility in their total. In contrast, hard hands are more rigid in their total value.
