Let’s explore the world’s top unusual lucky charms. As much as we’d like to think that we can help influence the outcome of online casino games, the fact is that all games depend largely on luck and randomness. Yes, there are exceptions to the rule with skills-based games like Blackjack and Poker. But for the most part online casino games are built on RNGs and fair outcomes for all. Which is what makes them so continually engaging.

That’s not to say that there aren’t some of us who use certain ways and means to increase our lucky chances. More often through popular tokens like four-leafed clovers, rabbits’ feet and the like. But did you know that there are some more unusual lucky charms out there too? Whether or not they’re successful in attracting the attention of Lady Luck remains to be seen. But they’re still fun to read about and to use. Take a look and see whether you’ll be wanting any of these by your side the next time you log on for a session!

1. Tintinnabulum Lucky Charms

What the what now? Don’t feel bad if you’ve never heard of this before. We hadn’t either! Straight from ancient Rome, where belief in lucky charms was rampant, comes the tintinnabulum. A talisman meant to be hung from doorways or windows like a wind chime. That’s where the resemblance to modern-day wind chimes ends though. As rather than more common tubular bells or pipes.

The tintinnabulum was a collection of bells (pretty normal) arranged around a carving of a winged phallus (absolutely not normal). The idea was that the tintinnabulum would be moved by the wind to create a tinkling sound that would rid the house of bad energy and ring in good luck. We don’t know how effective it is. But we do know that if you hang one up in this day and age, it’ll be a great story at parties. Certainly qualifies as one of those unusual lucky charms.

2. Zippo lighter Lucky Charms

We’re on safer ground here with the Zippo lighter. One that smokers will recognize as the ultimate windproof lighter. A huge help if you’re ever trying to light your cigarette in the middle of a howling gale. It was also a huge help to one First Lieutenant Harold Fritz during the Vietnam War as well. While leading a series of armoured vehicles, Fritz and his men were ambushed in a hail of gunfire. Although they returned fire.

Fritz was hit by shrapnel and eventually evacuated from the scene. Later he discovered that the Zippo his wife had given him had in fact stopped a bullet that would have killed him outright. Smoking may not be good for your health. But it turns out it was a lifesaver for at least one soldier. We know that online gambling isn’t exactly a life and death situation. But if you do own a Zippo, it might be worth using it as a lucky charm when you play. It may not add more years to your life like it did for Fritz. But it might add more zeros to your bank account. Unusual lucky charms for sure.

3. Chimney sweeps

Here’s one that’s more unusual than most – chimney sweeps! We’re not sure if literal chimney sweeps even exist anymore. But back when they did, they were considered to bring good luck with them. At least by those in Britain and parts of Europe.

Some say that a sweep saved King George III when his horse bolted. Others tell tales of a sweep who slips and falls from a roof. It was also thought that shaking the hand of a sweep in passing would bring good luck. And some couples even hired sweeps to kiss the bride at their wedding in order to bring luck to their union. (We just hope they took a bath first.) Now we are in no way suggesting that you find an errant chimney sweep on the street and take them home with you to bring you good luck (also that’s known as kidnapping). But perhaps if you find a figurine or a picture of a chimney sweep. It might bring some luck to your gaming.  This has to be on the list of unusual lucky charms right?

4. Lucky penny

“See a penny pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck!” You know the rhyme. But do you know the meaning behind it? Apparently the idea of a penny being lucky goes all the way back to ancient times. People believe that metal had the power to protect people from evil spirits. When metal was eventually used as currency in the form of coins. The wealthy had to have good fortune as a result of all the metal they owned. Being wealthy is still  lucky. So who’s to say picking up a penny wouldn’t help you find good fortune at the casino too? There’s only one way to find out!

5. The hangman’s noose

We know what you’re thinking. How can something used to hang people be lucky?  But believe it or not, objects associated with public executions and the condemned were to be lucky back in the day. At least in the Europe and the US. Perhaps it was an earlier version of today’s fascination with true crime series and podcasts, who knows?

At any rate, artifacts used in executions had to have unique beneficial qualities. And the hangman’s noose was one of the most morbidly popular examples. While some used it to help ward off headaches and fever, gamblers took it as a lucky charm. Hoping it would give them an extra edge in their game play. As for its modern day usage, we cannot stress this enough. Please leave nooses alone and stick to watching crime documentaries instead. Gambling is already exciting enough without throwing ropes into the mix too.

Seen any charms you like the idea of? Then maybe carry one of them (or a reasonable facsimile) with you the next time you visit your online casino. And see if they bring you any extra luck. It’s going to be difficult to fit a chimney sweep in your pocket but we believe in you!
